Protein hair straightening treatments (most commonly known as keratin treatments) offer a semi-permanent way to achieve smoother, more manageable hair.

Unlike traditional chemical relaxers that permanently break the disulfide bonds in your hair to change its structure, protein treatments work by temporarily filling in gaps and rough patches along the hair shaft. They infuse the hair with a concentrated blend of proteins (like keratin, amino acids, and collagen), which is then sealed into the cuticle using heat.

Note: While often called “protein straightening,” pure protein treatments focus more on repair and smoothing rather than literal, pin-straight results. Treatments that yield perfectly straight hair typically combine proteins with a chemical smoothing agent (and high heat) to alter the hair pattern for 3 to 6 months.
